A contract was let for the construction of passenger station, goods shed, etc, and 'other works' at Malmsbury on September 23, 1862.
On October 21, 1862, the line through to Castlemaine was opened to traffic.
A Six lever interlocking frame was provided in a signal bay on the Up platform on September 20, 1927. The frame worked the signals only.
By early 1979, Malmsbury had been abolished as a block post. All signals were abolished and the points spiked normal.
