Armadale circa 1912 looking towards Caulfield. An up Flinders St train headed by DDE 729 is seen on the right. The program to regrade the line from South Yarra to Caulfield appears to have been motivated by the desire to avoid many train/tram crossings. The provision of two extra tracks was undertaken at this time. When this photo was taken the track on the left was a siding. The signal box shown was put in service April 1910 and abolished December 1921 when 3 position signals came into service between Hawksburn and Caulfield A box. The 4 tracks were in service by Oct. 1915 and electric train service was introduced to Caulfield early 1922
