This is a significant diagram as this was the first time VR introduced what became know as 4 aspect signalling. Prior to this a bottom light (medium speed aspect) definitely meant that the train was diverging. Of interest is that dwarf 10 at Kensignton still exists to this day as shown in the diagram. A photo of this dwarf is on this page. In this diagram the junction at Newmarket was controlled by Newmarket signalbox. On July 27 1969 this signalbox was abolished and the junction is now controlled from Kensignton signalbox.
